Chamber Issues & Eggs Speaker Declares 2012 the Year of the Relationship

Meridith Elliott Powell

The Haywood County Chamber of Commerce and Haywood Community College’s Small Business Center hosted speaker Meridith Elliott Powell of Motion First, during the Chamber’s February Issues & Eggs Breakfast. Over 50 Chamber members attended the seminar titled New Year’s ReSolutions, Get your Business Moving in 2012.

The action packed seminar focused on 5 ReSolutions to get your business moving in 2012. Meridith declared that, “2012 is the Year of the Relationship, the economy is shifting and we must shift with it.”The economy has evolved to a customer driven pull economy vs. the push economy of the past. Businesses must create a competitive advantage through the method in which products and services are offered in order to remain successful.

Through her 5 ReSolutions, Powell encouraged businesses to accept responsibility for the current state of their company and to take ownership of their future. She went on to emphasize the importance of investing time to really getting to know your customers, building a strong network that will speak highly of your business and embracing turnover, not everyone on your team will share your vision and values. In this changing economy business owners were encouraged to think small and remain flexible. Opportunities and challenges arrive at a snap, and businesses must be able to move quick and change directions to successfully address the needs of their customer base.
