Haywood Spay/Neuter is Aiming for a No-Kill County
At Haywood Spay/Neuter's Board Retreat last Saturday I learned that for two days in the very recent past there was no need to euthanize any animals at the Haywood Animal Services shelter! Folks this is big news! It means that fewer people brought stray pets to the shelter, fewer owners surrendered their pets to the shelter and for some reason even problem pets weren't collected by Animal Service officers. The primary reason animals entering the shelter are euthanized is that room needs to be made for new animals that are brought to the shelter.
I am happy. Why? Because, in 2011 6% fewer pets entered the shelter. I wish that other numbers such as the euthanasia rate had also gone down, but if the number of pets entering the shelter keeps going down (dare I hope 12% down in 2012?) the euthanasia rate will drop. Haywood Spay/Neuter is going to do everything in its power to make this happen. We will continue to subsidize the price of every surgery and offer free surgery for pets of income qualified owners.
Haywood Spay/Neuter's donors make it possible for us to make this promise. If you are already a donor -- Thank You! We love you and so should every one of your neighbors. If you'd like to join in and be a part of creating a no-kill county you may donate and/or volunteer. Send your gifts to Haywood Spay/Neuter, PO Box 992, Waynesville, NC 28786, call us at 828-452-1329 or visit our website at www.haywoodspayneuter.org.
