Lifeworks Graduation, with Christian Women's Job Corps
Christian Women's Job Corps held a graduation service for their Lifeworks participants on December 28, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. The service took place at Woodland Baptist Church, with Melissa Stevens offering the welcome and recognition of participants. Mentors were recognized by Theresa Roberts, and Linda Massie offered a word of encouragement to her fellow mentors. Former participant and current volunteer, Alex Sanchez, participated in the service through song.
Phase 1 participants consisted of Cheryl McCullough, Carol Trammel, Lisa Clark, and Anne Edwards. All of these women have now progressed to Phase 2 of the Lifeworks program. Phase 2 graduates were Donna Taylor and Della Waskom, both of whom are continuing to volunteer at the center.
A reception following the graduation service was made possible by the many churches and volunteers from throughout the community.
Christian Women's Job Corps seeks to equip women for life and employment within a Christian context. Recently, a Christian Men's Job Corps was also established. Both consist of a program, 21 weeks for men and 28 weeks for women, that teaches job skills and life skills. Participants are paired with mentors who walk side by side with them throughout the program, offering encouragement and accountability.
Men's classes are held on Thursday evenings at the Baptist Relief Center. Women's classes are held Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., also at the Baptist Relief Center.
