Water gardens — fun, useful presentation is Feb. 21

By Sally Jones | Feb 07, 2012

The Tuscola Garden Club will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at the Susan Todd Lounge at Lake Junaluska.  A presentation, “Secrets of Successful Water Gardens,” will be given by Patrick Langford, an agent with the Haywood County Agricultural Extension office.

Incorporating water gardens into landscapes provides a useful solution to the problems of erosion and excess water run-off.  Water gardens are not just for commercial properties.  They can be a fun and attractive part of gardening and landscape for homeowners as well.  Rainwater is channeled to a depression area where water-loving plants are grown to absorb it.

With the paving of streets, parking lots and driveways, run-off erosion can be destructive, especially in mountain areas where landslides have occurred. Langford will give tips and answer questions about creating a water garden for your own enjoyment and to solve water run-off problems in the yard.

Visitors are welcome.  Call 926-6387 for directions.
