Two Clyde chorus students, Ashley Cuprak and Cade Parkins, participated in the North Carolina Music Educators Elementary Honors Chorus Nov. 12-13, 2011, at the North Carolina Music Educators Conference in Winston-Salem. Cuprak and Parkins auditioned and were accepted out of 600 elementary students from the state.

Each year a well-known conductor is chosen to work with these students. This year, the conductor was Emily Ellsworth, the Artistic Director of  “Anima” – Young Singers of Greater Chicago.

The students are given copies of the music in early October and begin rehearsing with their music teacher to prepare for the clinic and concert. The music selected for the chorus to sing ranged from Antonio Vivaldi’s “Esurientes Implevit Bonis (He Fills the Hungry With Truly Good Things) to a contemporary arrangement of the old African-American Spiritual “Follow The Drinking Gourd.”

“This was truly a ‘landmark’ experience for these students and Clyde School and the Clyde community are very proud of them,” said Tim Stiles, music specialist, at Clyde School.
