3-A playoff-bound Tuscola wins finale

The Tuscola varsity volleyball team’s back-to-back WNCAC victories over East Henderson and Franklin was good enough to give the Mountaineers a berth into the NCHSAA Class 3-A playoffs and send its five seniors one final win on their home court.
Tuscola (9-11, 5-9 WNCAC) will play at Kings Mountain Saturday night at 7 p.m. in a first round 3-A match.
In the season finale on Tuesday, the Mountaineers defeated the Panthers in four, 3-1 (28-26, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22).
“We finished the season strong with two good solid wins against East Henderson and Franklin,” said Tuscola Head Coach Angell Kirkpatrick Benson. “We are hammering the ball and serving tougher.  Tuesday night, when we fell behind (Franklin), we stepped up our game and the results reflect that.   Now it’s on to the playoffs and ...
