If the signs didn’t attract enough attention, the bright orange shirts were sure to get some notice during the 2012 United Way Day of Caring yesterday.

The annual event brings together volunteers from clubs, businesses, churches and organizations to spend one day taking care of people in need of a helping hand in Haywood County, whether it’s painting a house or building a wheelchair ramp.

“I think people enjoy doing it. It promotes so much unity with groups and businesses, and it’s a good team-building activity,” said Celesa Willett, executive director of United Way of Haywood County.

Although Day of Caring takes place on one day out of the year, Willett says in encompasses a spirit United Way tries to promote all year long.
