A ‘Classic in Canton’
CANTON — The “Battle of Undefeateds” proved to be a classic rivalry football game between Waynesville Middle and Canton Middle Thursday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
And the Blue Ridge Conference showdown also provided the wildest ending as Canton Middle scored the game-winning touchdown with 12.1 seconds left in the game to edge Waynesville Middle, 32-28, who had recaptured the lead 28-24 a minute earlier.
The Black Bears improved to 5-0, while the Mountaineers slipped to 4-1. CMS will host Macon Middle at 5 p.m. at Memorial Stadium, while WMS will host Smoky Mountain (5 p.m.) at Weatherby Stadium Thursday, Oct. 4.
