The peonies are now at their peak at Wildcat Ridge Farm in Fines Creek.

And time is of the essence as these beautiful flowers only bloom for three weeks during the season.

Chef and grower Ricardo Fernandez and his wife Suzanne Fernandez grow more than five dozen varieties of herbaceous and intersectional ITOH peonies in a rainbow of colors, fragrances and sizes.

When you visit, Suzanne and Ricardo are happy to talk to you about the variations of peonies as well as their fig trees on the farm. Ricardo plans to hold another cooking class in September to teach people several delicious ways to enjoy the fresh figs from his trees.

The family-owned farm, situated right on the banks of the Pigeon River, is open to guests on Saturdays and Sundays and during the week by appointment only through the month of May.

To make an appointment, call 828-627-6751. They sell peony plants for transplant to your garden and also sell cut stems for your home, business or celebration.
