Abrahams is a beacon in our midst
Haywood residents following the extensive televised coverage of the Nelson Mandela death could proudly note that one of its own residents was on the podium with other world leaders during the memorial serivce.
Bishop Ivan Abrahams, General Secretary of the World Methodist Council, lives at Lake Junaluska 10 months out of the year, and was among the select few chosen to address mourners in Johannesburg, South Africa, assembled to honor the legacy of their leader.
Abrahams told the crowd, “The mantle is passed, and it is in your hands.” As he recounted Mandela’s accomplishmnents not only in South Africa, but around the world, he called him a man who was inspired, and one who inspires.
Anyone who has heard Abrahams’ story and listened to him speak will likely conclude the same thing about him.
It is an honor to have such a leader within our midst.
