A single-vehicle accident closed Broad Street for about two hours Monday, Aug. 4.

Tyler Johnson, 20, of Clyde, was traveling east on Broad Street when he struck a utility pole on the side of the road at about 7:40 p.m., which caused his truck to flip onto its top.

Aaron Deaver, with the Clyde Police Department, was the first to respond. Firemen with the Clyde Fire Department removed Johnson from his vehicle and he was transported to Haywood Regional.

Police contacted Duke Energy to assess the stability of the utility pole. Some residents in Clyde lost power for 10 to 15 minutes while the lines and transformer were checked. While the pole is currently stable, it will have to be replaced.

The Clyde Police Department is currently investigating the accident.
