In Loving Memory

CANTON — Adeline Jane Mease Ballard, 71, of Asheville Road, in Canton, and a former resident of Asheville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at her home, with her loving daughter, Stephanie, at her side.

Mrs. Ballard was born Aug. 21, 1941, in Haywood County to the late Grover C. Mease and the late Jessie Williams Mease.  She grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader and Adeline made many friendships that created special memories that she cherished throughout her lifetime.   She was indeed a lovely young lady, and her beautiful red hair and her unforgettable smile were admired by everyone. Adeline later made her home in Asheville, before returning to her hometown of Canton, where she resided for the past 30 years.She retired as a teaching assistant from the Buncombe County School system, with 25 years of dedicated service, where she touched the lives of many children during her career.  Adeline could often be found working in her flower and vegetable garden and also spending many enjoyable hours cooking and canning.  She loved her family deeply, and her precious memory shall remain with each of them forever.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Jennings Ballard, who passed away in 2006; two sisters; and three brothers.

Surviving are her daughter, Stephanie Honeycutt, of Canton; her brothers, Kenneth Mease, and his wife, Chrysta Mease, of Canton, and Buford Mease, and his wife, Frances Mease, of Canton; and her special dog, “Cricket,” that she loved dearly.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the chapel of Crawford / Ray Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Willett  officiated. The family  received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial was in Morning Star Cemetery.
