Adopt-A-Cat Month promotion ends soon
Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation has been promoting national Adopt-A-Cat Month entering all new owners who adopt from Sarge’s, PetSmart and the Haywood County Animal Shelter in June into a special drawing, which will be held July 1.
To date in June 48 cats have been adopted from all three venues, but there are many more waiting for their second chance in life.
“June is Adopt-A-Cat Month because it is the high point of the summer kitten season,” said Randi Pollack, Sarge’s cat committee chair. “Unfortunately, many cat owners are unaware that their ‘kitten’ can get pregnant between 4 to 5 months of age. Thus, the phenomenon of kittens having kittens is taking place. These unwanted litters are being taken to the shelter.
“Also many owners are finding in this economy that they can no longer take care of the cats they have and turn them into the shelter,” Pollack said. “Their hope is that they will be adopted. Obviously, there are too many unwanted cats and kittens looking for homes and the outcome is bleak for many in the shelter.”
Those considering adding a cat or kitten to their family are urged to do it now. They will be saving a life and will be adding a lot of joy into their own family.
The Haywood County Animal Shelter adoption prices are $27.50 for a male and $37.50 for a female. This fee includes spay/neuter and rabies vaccination. Sarge’s is running an adult black cat special through the end of the month, with all black cats half price. In addition, those interested in adopting two cats or kittens of any color will get the second one at half price.
All adopters will be entered in a drawing for special prizes donated by: Animal Hospital of Waynesville, Balsam Animal Hospital, Canton Animal Hospital, Country Lane Animal Hospital, Creature Comforts, Junaluska Animal Hospital, Maple Tree Veterinary Hospital and Rahama Kennel and Cattery. The Grand Prize includes a 44” scratching post, free first vet exam, six months cat flea preventative, three nights free boarding, cat mat, plush cushion bed, dental health cat food, nail clippers, scoop, toys and cat clock. This is a prize worth around $300 and geared for cats. Second and third prize also contain many of the items offered in the grand prize.
“There are still a few days left in June to qualify for this drawing,” Pollack said. “But remember, cats and kittens need homes year round, so please adopt when you can.”
Current cat owners should remember to spay/neuter their cats around 4 to 5 months so as to not add to the overpopulation problem.
