Difficulty communicating can be a problem for people of all ages and for a lot of different reasons.  However, many older adults will acquire a communication disorder later in life following stroke or another type of brain injury.  Disorders called aphasia, apraxia of speech, and dysarthria are frequently occurring communication disorders following brain injury.  The Adult Neurogenic Communication Group was created to provide adults in our community with an acquired communication disorder a supportive and non-judgmental environment to socialize, learn, and recover. Groups meet the second Monday of each month from 1:30-2:30 in the Medwest-Haywood Fitness Center classrooms. Contact Leigh Odom for more information (828-227-3834,
