Last week, Mary Ellen Whaley spotted a groundhog that is quite unlike those that are almost as common as rats around Haywood County.
Across the creek from her home in the Jonathan Creek Area, she saw an animal that was snow white.
"After looking at it, we determined that it was an albino groundhog," Whaley said. "I got my camera and took some pictures because I had never seen a white groundhog before. After talking to several folks and searching the Internet, it seems that this is a very rare find."
