Alice W. Shook
In Loving Memory
CANTON — Alice Woody Shook, 83, passed through heaven’s gate Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
Mrs. Shook was born April 8, 1931, in the Cataloochee Community of Haywood County to the late James Sherman Woody and the late Julia Lindsay Woody. During her early years of her life, Alice resided in Dutch Cove and had made her home in Canton for the past 51 years.
Mrs. Shook was employed with American Enka Corporation and retired with 18 years of dedicated service. Alice truly had a kind and caring heart and for many years served as a caregiver and was also employed with the American Red Cross. She loved children and touched many children’s lives by caring for them as being their special “baby sitter.”
Years later, many children returned to visit her and share special memories that she had given them. Mrs. Shook was a member of West Canton Baptist Church. Alice’s garden was filled with beautiful flowers, especially her roses that everyone admired. She also enjoyed interior decorating and was an avid antique collector.
Alice graciously welcomed everyone to her home for Christmas and birthday parties and she always made certain everyone was blessed with an abundance of presents and gifts. Alice Woody Shook was a loving mother and grandmother and also a lady who made a true difference in the lives of many. She shall never be forgotten.
She is survived by a daughter, Viki Williams, of Leicester; sons, Mike Shook, of Canton, and Roger Shook, and his wife, Sherry, of Anderson, South Carolina; grandchildren, Tasha Ballard and Joshua Ballard, of Asheville, Roger McFalls, of Leicester; great-grandchildren, Noah Ballard, Stella Ballard, Michael McFalls; and great-great-grandson, Bentley McFalls.
A celebration of Mrs. Shook’s life will be held at West Canton Baptist Church at a later date.
