Alzheimer's benefit golf tourney is Sept. 15

Sep 04, 2014

The 22nd annual WNC Alzheimer's Golf Tournament, in honor of Ronnie Sprinkle and in memory of Clyde Green, will take begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at Lake Junaluska Golf Course. The format is a four-person scramble. Dinner and prizes will follow.

Dr. Wright Spears initiated the first WNC Alzheimer's Golf Tournament after his wife, the late Mary Blue Smith Spears, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Throughout the years, this tournament has raised more than $193,000 to assist families in Haywood County whose loved ones suffer from this devastating disease.

The monies raised by this tournament are used to provide support for respite care for caregivers who need relief, a toll-free hotline to provide families with emergency information and professionally trained personnel who are able to provide counseling to individuals and groups throughout the county.

The entry fee for the tournament is $75 and sponsorships from $100 to $500 are available. Honorariums are also available for $100 and can be sent to WNC Alzheimer's Golf Tournament, P.O. Box 611, Waynesville, NC 28786.

Those interested in participating may call Richard Reeves at 734-9272.
