Haywood County Amateur Radio Club (HCARC) is holding its 24 hour Field Day, which began today at 2 p.m. and runs to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 23. This year's new location is at 1650 Brown Ave. in the Ingle's parking lot in Waynesville. The event is open to the public.

Field Day is a national contest where amateur radio groups are challenged to contact as many other ham radio operators across the globe within a 24 hour period.

At last year's Field Day, HCARC contacted 999 ham radios, an average ranking in the national competition.

This year, HCARC is operating 3 radio stations powered by generators.
