A 2,000 sq. ft. all-electric home in Beaverdam Valley that produces more electricity than it uses will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3 and Nov. 10.
In addition to producing an excess of electricity, the home's permaculture landscape will, in the future, provide much of the food for its inhabitants.
Energy-saving features of the house include passive solar design, geothermal heating and cooling, LED light fixtures, triple pane German designed windows and exterior doors, a heat pump water heater and low-flow plumbing fixtures.
Other notable features of the house: a main floor slab tinted olive green and studded with recycled glass, a fireman's pole, window seats framed by Moorish arches, and walls plastered in local clay.
