Angie's dancers recognized, praised in competition
Several dance troupes from Angie’s Dance Academy in Clyde recently participated in the Dance Troupe Inc. competition in Spindale. They came home with many awards including several Judges’ Choice Awards for Most Entertaining, Overall Highest Score of the Day and Highest Score of the Entire Weekend.
The Mini Aces are the youngest dancers of the performing troupes at Angie’s Dance Academy. Their jazz routine, “We Like It,” scored a High Gold Excel and their tap routine, “Zippity Boppity Boo,” received High Gold Excel, the Judges’ Choice Award for costume, First Place Overall Level 1 and Large Group Level 1 Highest Score of the Day.
The Young Junior Aces’ tap routine, “Don’t Mean a Thing,” scored a High Gold Excel, Third Overall Level 2 Small Group. Their jazz routine “Bom Kiki Bom” received a High Gold Excel Rating and fifth place overall junior small group. These dancers performed their first lyrical routine, “Tears of an Angel,” and were awarded a High Gold Excel Rating and fourth place overall junior small group.
Listed below are the winnings of each of the performing teams as well as accomplishments of the many soloists from the academy.
Grace Nikol, Addison Wyatt, Jessica Matthews, Skye Parris, Thailer Pryor, Alexia Kirkpatrick, Kentley Nelson, Ansley Gooslby, Halie Gillett, Ciera Cogburn, Katelyn Francis, Ella Grace Cathey, Kendall Warner, Jaden Sutton, Nicole Borges, Jaycee Sutton, Dalli Hensley, McKenna Zullo and Anna Darby were all selected as youth dance ambassadors, receiving an invitation to the D.T.I. Grand National Finals Competition in Savannah, Georgia. The Aces and Concert Teams are under the direction of Angie Henley, Hayley Leis and Alanna Brookshire.
The Concert Team — Michaela Effler, Kendra Hall, Sarah Haurey, Diana Keown and Keely Wood — performed “Jungle Love” and “Tappin’ Bomb!” won High Gold for both.
The Junior Tap Small Group — Jaden Sutton, Alexis Banks, Jessica Matthews, Delaney Wildcatt, Kendall Warner and Kayla Justus — performed “Company B” and were awarded the Judges Choice Award and placed first for overall junior small group.
The Junior Aces — Alexis Banks Joshua Borges, Nicole Borges, Laurel Causby, Casty Eller, Addysen Kirkpatrick, Cade Leslie, Haley Manka, Alivia Mehaffey, Allie Roberts and Hannah Grace Shipman — won High Gold for “Go Gone,” and won High Gold Excel for “Grace” and “Bellhop Boogie.”
The Junior Aces Small Group — Hannah Grace Shipman, Allie Roberts, Casty Eller, Laurel Causby, Addysen Kirkpatrick and Haley Manka — performed “Bad Girls” and won High Gold Excel.
The Teen Aces — Jensen Buckner, Ciera Cogburn, Anna Darby, Ansley Goolsby, Dalli Hensley, Alexia Kirkpatrick, Kavender Grace Nelson, Kentley Nelson, Thailer Pryor, Isabella Sorrells, Jaycee Sutton, McKenna Zullo — performed “A Lot of Party” and won High Gold Excel and a Judges’ “Fierce Exit” Award. They also performed “In This Song” and won High Gold Excel.
The Senior Aces — Michaela Hannah, Olivia Sanderson, Abby Heath and Halie Gillett — performed “Ain’t No Rumor” and won High Gold Excel and second place overall for senior small group. They also performed “With or Without You” and won High Gold Excel and first place for overall senior group.
The Rhythm Tap Team — Jensen Buckner, Ciera Cogburn, Anna Darby, Halie Gillett, Ansley Goolsby, Abby Heath, Dalli Hensley, Kavender Grace Nelson, Kentley Nelson, Olivia Sanderson, Isabella Sorrells, McKenna Zullo — performed “Runaway Baby” and won High Gold Excel and overall intermediate second highest score of the day
The Aces Hip Hop Team — Kennedy Barker, Ashley Bland, Krista Bradley, Ella Cody, Kellie Ferguson, Ava Flowers, Arabella Jackson, Kolt Nelson, Grace Nickol, Mia Norton, Louci Thomason, Lily Turner, Maggie Webb, Emeri Wright, Emma Wright, Ella Grace Cathey, Katelyn Francis, Jessica Matthews, Mercer Meadows, Skye Parris, Jaden Sutton, Kendall Warner, Addison Wyatt, Alexis Banks, Joshua Borges, Nicole Borges, Laurel Causby, Casty Eller, Cade Leslie, Haley Manka, Alivia Mehaffey, Allie Roberts, Hannah Grace Shipman, Jensen Buckner, Ciera Cogburn, Anna Darby, Ansley Goolsby, Dalli Hensley, Kavender Grace Nelson, Kentley Nelson, Isabella Sorrells, Jaycee Sutton, McKenna Zullo, Michaela Hannah, Olivia Sanderson, Abby Heath and Halie Gillett — performed “The Pit Crew” and won a Judges’ Choice rating and the overall junior line as well as the highest scoring routine in their age division.
The following soloists were recognized.
Michaela Hannah performed “Applause” and “Water from the Same Source” and won a Judge’s Choice rating for both dances; first place overall for a senior solo, Senior Star Title Winner, Senior Highest Score of the Day and a D.T.I. Call Back Challenge.
Skye Parris performed “Everybody Loves My Baby” and won a Judges Choice rating, first place overall for a junior solo, Junior Star Title Winner and a D.T.I. Call Back Challenge.
Jessica Matthews performed “Think About It” and won High Gold Excel.
Addison Wyatt performed “Super Girl” and won High Gold Excel and fifth place overall for a junior solo.
Alexia Kirkpatrick performed “Footprints in the Sand” and won Judges Choice and second place overall for intermediate level II solo.
The following dancers won High Gold Excel for their performances: Kentley Nelson for “What you Want;” Ciera Cogburn for “See what I Wanna See;” Thailer Pryor for “They Weren’t There;” and Halie Gillett for “Just a Girl.” And Dalli Hensley won the Judges Choice “Commander” Award.
In duets and trios, Ansley Goolsby and Kentley Nelson performed “Doin’ Our Thing” and won a Judges’ Choice rating, first place overall intermediate duet/trio and third intermediate highest score of the day.
Kendall Warner and Jaden Sutton performed “Shake It” and won High Gold Excel, the Entertainment Award and the Judges’ “Energizer Bunny” Award.
Jaycee Sutton and Dalli Hensley performed “Lookin’ Fierce” and won Gold Excel and second place overall intermediate duet/trio.
Addison Wyatt, Ella Grace Cathey and Kaitlyn Francis performed “Rock Stars” and won High Gold Excel and first place overall pre-junior duet/trio.
The following duos/trios won High Gold Excel for their performances: Ciera Cogburn, Anna Darby and McKenna Zullo for “Done;” and Josh Borges and Nicole Borges for “Wanna be Like You.”
