While driving, a good Samaritan discovered a box with a 5-week old Dachshund puppy in it alongside the roadway.  She promptly brought it to Haywood County Animal Services for help.

The puppy was most likely abandoned in this manner because of the kink in her tail and a club foot. Being too young to be left on her own, the puppy was taken home by officers to make sure it would be okay after this ordeal.

After keeping it for a few days, the female puppy, now named Phoenix, was turned over to Sarge’s Rescue Foundation for fostering until old enough for adoption.
