'Annie, Jr.' is coming to Haywood County
Annie, everybody’s favorite red-headed orphan, is coming to Haywood County. A cast of 48 local singers, dancers and actors from MusicWorks Studio of Performing Arts will present the musical "ANNIE Jr." Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6 and 7 in the “Out of the Box” theater located at MusicWorks.
Based on the popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie, "ANNIE Jr." tells of a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents, who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil doings, befriends President Franklin Roosevelt and finds a new family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
"ANNIE Jr." is a condensed version of the super-hit Broadway musical "Annie," designed to meet the needs of young performers while still preserving the spirit and essence of the original. Its upbeat plot and flamboyant characters have made Annie one of the most beloved musicals in history.
Teachers, parents, school administrators and friends have witnessed students changed permanently and positively by learning life and behavioral skills — ranging from communication, collaboration and time management to creativity, imagination and confidence — from the experience of participating in a musical theatre productions such as "ANNIE Jr."
"ANNIE Jr." opens at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the newly renovated home of MusicWorks Studio of Performing Arts, located at 99 Kingdom Hall Drive in Clyde. Additional performances will be held at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Tickets for the production may be purchased in advance beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $8 for students ages 3 to 17. All seats are reserved and seating is limited. Group ticket pricing is also available for church and community organizations.
