Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Library featuring Author Lee Smith

We are delighted that well renowned author, Lee Smith, will be our speaker at the Friends of the Library annual meeting on Tuesday, May 6th. Lee is the author of 13 novels and four collections of short stories. She is a recipient of the Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Literature, the North Carolina Award for Literature, and a Southern Book Critic Circle Award.
Lee's newest novel, Guests on Earth, published in October, 2013 by Algonquin Books, Chapel Hill, is set in 1913 at Highlands Mental Hospital, Asheville. Ms. Smith says that she knew for years that she would write this book. She had a personal experience with members of her family at Highland Hospital. Other books by Lee Smith include Fair and Tender Ladies, On Agate Hill, and The Last Girls.
Please mark your calendar for May 6th, to attend the Friends of the Library annual meeting and experience an enjoyable talk from author, Lee Smith. In addition, officers of Friends of the Library will be elected. The meeting is scheduled for 7 PM at First United Methodist Church in Waynesville , 566 South Haywood Street. A dessert buffet will be served by Kanini’s. Lee Smith’s books will be available for purchase by Blue Ridge Books. Ms. Smith will sign books. Tickets for the evening are $10 and are available for sale at all the library branches, Blue Ridge Books and Gallery 86. Tickets must be purchased by Friday, May 2.
