Applicants sought for property tax review board

Feb 03, 2014

The Haywood County Board of Commissioners is seeking applicants to serve on the 2014 Board of Equalization and Review.

The purpose of the Board of E&R is to hear appeals to the value placed on real property for 2014 tax year. The board will hear appeals based on a meeting schedule established by the commissioners. There are seven vacancies on the board.

In past years, at least several county commissioners have served on the equalization and review board, however David Francis, county tax administrator, said the N.C. Department of Revenue is encouraging commissioners no not serve on the board.

"It's become political," Francis said.
