Apply for Civilian Police Academy by Sept. 4

Those interested in learning what happens behind-the-scenes at the Waynesville Police Department can sign up for the next series of free classes with the civilian police academy.

The six-week long academy, offered twice a year, covers every topic including record keeping, canine patrol, search and seizure laws, juvenile and domestic laws, traffic stop procedures and the process of taking evidence.

Each class offers not only informative lectures from police department staff, but also interactive lessons such as watching the K9s in action or learning how to dust for finger prints.

Lt. Brian Beck will also teach a firearms safety lesson and take the class to the shooting range to put their skills to the test.
