The Augustine Washington II Chapter Daughters of the American Colonists presented two Medals of Award to JROTC cadets at Pisgah and Tuscola High Schools. The presentations were made by Gail Powell, DAC member and chairman of the chapter National Awards Committee.

Carmelita Gamez of Pisgah High School is the daughter of Juana M. Gamez of Canton. She is a rising junior at Pisgah High School, where Algebra II is her favorite subject. Gamez is a member of HOSA, Health Occupation Students of America. Through that organization, she hopes to be able to volunteer at Silver Bluff Village next year. Gamez wants to study something in the medical field when she finishes high school.

Madeline Harverson of Tuscola High School lives in the Iron Duff section of Haywood County with her parents, Jeff and Melinda Harverson. She is a rising junior at Tuscola and enjoys art, JROTC, band and English. Upon graduation from high school, Harveson hopes to go to the U.S. Naval Academy.

The cadets and their mothers were guests at a recent DAC luncheon meeting, where they were given special recognition by the DAC State Regent, Fredda Kimball.
