Arnold Memorial Scholarship established at HCC
The Arnold Memorial Scholarship was recently established at Haywood Community College in memory of Stan Arnold. The fully-endowed scholarship is available for non-traditional students in any program of study that is a resident of Haywood County. The first awarding of the scholarship will be the fall 2014 semester.
Arnold immigrated to the United States from Israel in 1947 to get an education. He was a non-traditional student, older than the typical freshman, and worked full-time while going to school and each summer. He studied in the engineering school at the University of Washington and the Harvard Business School. He never stopped learning and read at least three newspapers per day.
“It is a tribute to his involvement in Haywood County and his love for the area that a scholarship for non-traditional students is established at HCC,” said his wife, Linda Arnold.
