Celebrate Oktoberfest with the Haywood County Arts Council on Saturday, October 6 from 5:30-7:30pm on the Patio at the Classic Wineseller, 20 Church Street, Waynesville, NC. The party is sponsored by Michael and Ginger Galati. The public is cordially invited to attend. Tickets are $12 per person and can be purchased by calling the Arts Council office at 828-452-0593, or by visiting the Arts Council office at 86 N. Main Street, Waynesville or the Classic Wineseller at 20 Church Street, Waynesville. In case of inclement weather, the celebration will continue in the Classic Wineseller.
The evening includes a traditional Bavarian meal of bratwurst, potato salad, sauerkraut, and tea or soda. From the start beer was an important part of Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest beers, a wide variety of craft beers, and a large selection of wine is available for purchase. Proceeds from food and drink sales are to benefit the Haywood County Arts Council.
Oktoberfest started in Munich in 1810 to celebrate the October 12th marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to the Saxon-Hildburghausen Princess Therese. Nobles and citizens (unusual for the time) celebrated in a field in front of the city gates with a horse race as the main event and plenty of games (wheel barrel and sack races, barrel rolling races, and goose chases, etc.) to entertain the nearly 40,000 Bavarians in attendance.

The mission of the Haywood County Arts Council is to build partnerships that promote art and artists, explore new cultural opportunities, and preserve mountain artistic heritage. This project was supported by the N.C. Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
