Hawyood County’s own bluegrass sensation Balsam Range celebrated the release of its new CD, “Five,” last Friday night at Isis Restaurant and Music Hall in Asheville.

The CD is a highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s 2012 release, “Papertown,” which spend five months as the No. 1 album on bluegrass radio and won Bluegrass Album of the Year in 2013.

“Papertown was received so well that we were a little anxious about what we could do next,” said Tim Surrett, vocalist and bass player for the band. “How do you follow an Album of hte year? We finally just went in there and made the best record we could and had some fun.”

The new CD features cover art from painter Nancy Hilliard Joyce. Since the first track on the album is “Moon Over Memphis,” Joyce’s painting of a moonlit Memphis cityscape fit perfectly on the cover.

The new album is available now at www.crossroadsmusic.com, iTunes and Amazon.

See next week’s Guide for a more indepth look at the artist behind the cover art.
