Balsam Visitors Center closes, worker reminisces
In the past six and a half years, Eddes Christopher has literally met thousands of people.
Her job working part-time at the information desk of the Balsam Visitors Center in West Waynesville sees her greeting dozens of people in a day as they come through the doors of the tiny building — a place well stocked with brochures, maps and Christopher’s welcoming smile.
Sometimes they come in only to ask a quick question or get directions, but at other times, her visitors enjoy having a chat about the area, where they’re going, or even a little bit about their lives. It’s those moments that make Christopher’s job special.
