Baptist men hold coat drive

Oct 08, 2013

The local chapter of the NC Baptist Men Disaster Relief Ministry is trying to keep children warm throughout the winter in Haywood county.

The ministry is holding a coat drive in October to collect winter coats for elementary and middle-school aged children in the area.

“I’ve visited 13 elementary schools and I’ve found this to be a great need,” said Joe Cassada, team leader with the disaster relief ministry. “Our mission statement is all about helping people.”

Donations of new or slightly worn coats and jackets will be accepted at any of the Baptist churches in Haywood County.

“If you would take the coat home and let your kid wear it, we will accept it,” Cassada said.

Coats will be accepted through Oct. 13 and will be distributed Oct. 21 and 22 to local schools.
