Barbara C. Bolden
1938 — 2016
CANTON — Barbara “Chid” Carswell Bolden, 78, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, in Annville, Pennsylvania.
A native of Haywood County, she was a daughter of the late Marvin and Pearl Duckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Elkins.
Barbara worked the farm with her dad and learned crafting skills from her mother. She attended Vanderbilt for two years in nursing before transferring to Western Carolina University for a B.S. degree in education. Barbara taught, coached and did extra services for the school system for 30 years in Canton.
She retired and attended Haywood Community College for two years to become a registered nurse, served on MAHEC, and taught on the Cherokee reservation. Barbara was recognized by Gov. Jim Hunt; was a Master Gardener; spoke at many special events; made afghans; cared for many people; and rode her horse, Hank.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Bolden; one sister, Suzy Cox and husband, Steve; one brother, Joe Carswell; a grandson, Ryan Duncan; and many cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, in the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Rigdon officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
