Bascomb 'Lum' Alfred Edwards Jr.

WAYNESVILLE — Mr. Bascomb "Lum" Alfred Edwards Jr., 87, of Belle Meade Drive, Waynesville, passed away Jan. 6, 2014, after a period of declining health. Mr. Edwards was born in Haywood County to the late Bascomb Alfred Edwards and Jane Smith Edwards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Marie Early Edwards; brother Ellis Edwards; and a sister Dorothy Edwards Troutman.

Mr. Edwards was very active in the volunteer community for 25 years, serving Meals on Wheels, he worked in the soup kitchen, and was awarded for his work with the Heart to Hands. He and his wife were very involved with churches in Haywood County and supported many newly called ministers. Mr. Edwards worked for Unagusta/Lea Industries and Holston Energy and was a member at Faith UMC.

Survivors include his son, Roger Edwards, of Waynesville; daughters, Sandra DuBois, of Dunwoody, Georgia, Effie “Penny” Atkinson of Round O, South Carolina; grandchildren, Tracy Edwards, Ashli Aumen, Brian and Brad DuBois; great-grandchildren Jorja, Sarah and Vivian Aumen.

Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Friday, Jan. 10,  in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Nelson will officiate and interment will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends  from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday  at the funeral home.
