Bauer to speak at BRCO meeting May 13

Bethel Rural Community Organization (BRCO) will host a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the historic Bethel Presbyterian Church/Encouraging Word Baptist Church, located at 664 Sonoma Road,Bethel.  There will be a pot luck supper and everyone is invited to bring a dish and attend.

The guest speaker for the evening is Jennifer Bauer, co-owner and principal geologist with Appalachian Landslide Consultants (ALC).  Bauer will talk about a proposed project to identify potential landslide areas in the Upper Pigeon River watershed in order to promote public safety and protect natural resources. Graduating with highest honors in geology from UNC-Chapel Hill, Bauer became a licensed geologist in 2005. She has 12 years of engineering geology experience, specializing in landslides and landslide mapping for the past seven years.  Bauer is also a recent past president of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists. She has a passion for identifying landslide hazards in Western North Carolina in order to protect life and property in the mountains that she has always called home.

BRCO will also dedicate its quilt block, “Pigeon Valley,” during the meeting.  BRCO becomes the third community organization in the county to become a part of the Tourism Development Association-sponsored Quilt Trails program in Haywood County.
