"Bear foot in the mountains" quilt show
Being a member of the High Country Quilters is about more than just making quilts. It's about donating time and talent to help others.
At the 22nd annual quilt show last weekend themed "Bear Foot in the Mountains," the 62-member quilt guild aimed to raise money to pay for all the materials needed to make quilts for donations.
The women (and one man) in the guild donate their quilts to Broyhill Children's Home, nursing homes, the Asheville VA Hospital, the Wounded Warriors program, newborns and Quilts of Valor. They even make cat and dog beds to keep animals warm at Sarge's Animal Rescue.
They also participate in the Home of the Brave Quilt Project, a national program that gives quilts to the families of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
