BearWaters Brewing in Waynesville will be holding a fundraiser benefit this weekend to raise money for Haywood County foster children.

After speaking with the Department of Social Services, BearWaters owner Kevin Sandefur said he wanted to help out some children that may be overlooked this Christmas.

“We’re having a music benefit trying to raise money for some of the older teenage foster care kids who usually get overlooked this time of year,” he said.

While young children are provided with toys through the Christmas Angel Tree and other programs, the teenagers who need clothing and other personal items are often the last to be chosen.

On Friday night, local favorite Caribbean Cowboys will play live and on Saturday night, Cullowhee-based band Mangas Colorado will perform. Their influences include Lynyrd Skynyrd to Mumford & Sons and their music is characterized by a unique blend of sounds rooted in southern rock, classic country, folk and singer-songwriter music. The four-piece band released their debut EP, "Call You Home," in October.

Both shows start at 7 p.m. and donations will be accepted for the foster children cause. Sandefur said $1 from each beer purchase would also go to DSS. BearWaters in located at 130 Frazier Street, Suite 7. For more information, call 246-0602.
