Ben Wilson opens Classic Wineseller's August Music Series on Aug. 1

Waynesville, NC - The Classic Wineseller opens its August music series on Friday, August 1 with singer-songwriter Ben Wilson (guitar, vocals) performing hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s at 7pm. Wilson toured for more than 15 years and was named singer-songwriter of the year in Florida in 2010. Wilson is promoting his newest CD release, "In Cat Years."

Joe Cruz performs Saturday, August 2, 16, 23, and 30 at 7pm playing and singing the best of the Beatles and Elton John. Cruz grew up in New York City singing and playing in church. As a young man he became a regular on the club scene ultimately touring and opening for such notable groups as Chicago, Bonnie Raitt, and Santana. Cruz lives in Maggie Valley, NC with his wife and two daughters.

Daniel Shearin performs Friday, August 8 at 7pm at the Classic Wineseller. He is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who lives in Asheville, NC. Shearin has been performing regularly as a solo artist and he has been an active member of several popular bands in the area including Uncle MountainRiver Whyless, and Now You See Them. Shearin will play and sing a mix of folk, rock, and world music on finger-style acoustic guitar and harmonica.

Sheila Gordon plays keyboard and sings Saturday, August 9 at 7pm. Ms. Gordon has been playing piano and singing her way in to the hearts of thousands since she was a young girl. Earlier in her career, Ms. Gordon was the star attraction at a piano bar in Nashville, TN where she held the title for ten years. Sheila Gordon’s beautiful voice moves effortlessly between musical genres such as blues, jazz, gospel, and popular music.

Kevin Lorenz (guitar) performs Friday, August 15 at 7pm. Lorenz studied classical guitar at UNC-Greensboro while earning his PhD in music education. He attended master classes with Michael Lorimer and Jesus Silva. He has performed with the Asheville Symphony and the NC Pops Orchestra.

Charismatic singer-songwriter James Hammel (guitar, vocals) will perform jazz and pop tunes on Friday evening, August 22 at 7pm. Hammel was at the top of the corporate ladder in NYC when 911 occurred. Devastating effects to his company and friends led him to re-evaluate life and return to his love of music.

Jay Brown (guitar, vocals, banjo) returns to the Classic WIneseller on Friday, August 29 at 7pm. Brown has spent years traveling and playing across the U.S. taking in its rich musical heritage. He performs music from multiple genres including blues, bluegrass, and American roots music. Brown has performed with the Old Crow Medicine Show and shared the stage with musical legends, Etta Baker and Doc Watson. For more information about Jay Brown visit www.jaybrownmusic.com.

The Classic Wineseller presents local, regional, or national talent each week. The retail shop opens at 11am Tuesday through Saturday. The kitchen opens at 4pm Friday and Saturday serving small plate and tapas-style cuisine. There is a $10 per person food minimum on non-ticketed live music nights.
