'Best Friend's Approach' training set for April 22

The Smoky Mountain Center Geriatric and Adult Mental Health Specialty Team is partnering with the Area Agency on Aging, and Haywood County Senior Resource Center to present Best Friend’s Approach.  This training is being provided by Leslie Lawson, LRT/CTRS,QMHP with Smoky Mountain LME/MCO Geriatric & Adult Mental Health Specialty Team.

This once-a-month series is being offered to caregivers and others to provide hands-on tips and techniques. A variety of care giving events/topics will be discussed throughout the series. This session builds on the essential elements of friendship-respect, empathy, support, trust, and humor to help ensure the highest quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s disease.  The class will look at these elements of friendship and how they can be used to solve problems, encourage positive behavior, improve communication, and consistently make everyday reassuring, enjoyable, and secure.

This event is free of charge and worth two CEUs for CNAs, med techs, and personal caregivers.  This training will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 22, at 81 Elmwood Way, Waynesville.
