Bethel school lockdown suspect arrested

Haywood County Sheriff’s Office deputies have made an arrest in connection with an incident that occurred Thursday in the Bethel area that involved the pursuit (first by car, then on foot) of subjects with a stolen vehicle.

William Plemmons, 25, of Canton, was arrested in the area of Murray Road area at approximately 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6.

Plemmons was charged with felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle and felony possession of a firearm. He was given a $50,000 secured bond.

The pursuit put both schools in the Bethel community on soft lockdown as a precautionary measure.
