Bethel Third Grade Goes For the Gold
The third grade classes at Bethel Elementary School spent a week celebrating the Olympics. Each class chose a different country to study. After a week of studying the unique cultures and customs of Greece, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Jamaica, and South Africa, students were ready for the games to begin.
On Friday, Aug. 17, all third graders participated in their own Olympic games. It all began with the torch run and a grand parade of the countries. The games included a 100 meter dash, a 4 x 100 meter relay, a frisbee throw (discus), and a softball throw (shotput). After the games, each class shared some facts they had learned about their country. Then the students were treated to a taste of traditional dishes and foods from the five countries.
