Bikers bare all during downtown ride
More than 50 motorcycles rode through Main Street on Saturday, March 8, in their underwear to raise money for heating assistance programs in Haywood County.
As of Monday, March 10, “As Bare As You Dare” had raised over $6100 in donations and sponsorships.
“We raised about $3000 last year, so this year we doubled it,” said Rayna Keilman, Ladies’ Auxiliary member. “We had over $3000 in sponsorships alone this year.”
“We’re real proud and really excited to raise all that money to help the community,” said Keilman. “That’s what it’s all about — helping Haywood County.”
All proceeds are being donated to Mountain Projects for heating assistance.
“We’d like to thank the American Legion, for hosting it, and all the American Legion Riders who came out,” said Keilman. “We’d also like to thank the Ladies’ Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion, Julie’s Kickin’ Karaoke, Tony Poole, and all of our sponsors, and everyone who came out to volunteer and participate.”
“And we still have more money to raise,” said Keilman.
A soup and baked potato benefit lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehab located at 75 Fisher Loop in Maggie Valley.
The lunch will consist of chili or soup, a baked potato and a drink. The cost is $5.
“We’re always accepting donations,” said Keilman.
