WAYNESVILLE — William “Bill” Lucius McCord Jr., 83, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2014, at MedWest Haywood.
A native of Asheboro, he had resided in Haywood County since 1980. He was the son of the late William Lucius McCord Sr. and Lilly Parrish McCord, and he was also preceded in death by a son, Bobby McCord. Bill was a retired lieutenant colonel of the U.S. Air Force, having served two tours in Vietnam. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1953 and was a member of Long’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Bill worked for Titleist, Dunlop, and later retired from the Tommy Armour Golf Company. His two passions in life were flying and golf; those passions became his careers.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie Jamison McCord; a daughter, Carrie Teague and her husband, Stan, of Charlotte; two sons, Jeff McCord and his wife, Monica, of Boca Raton, Florida, and Bill McCord III; one sister, Libby Rahe and her husband, Bill, of Illinois; and six grandchildren, Samantha, Sydney and Sean Teague and Ryan, Katie and Kevin McCord.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
