CANTON — Lewis Seldon “Bill” Stamey, 94, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, at his residence.
A native and lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Arch J. and Lucy Henson Stamey. He was also preceded in death by a son, Benny Stamey, who died in 1998. He retired from Champion International, with 36 years of service and was a member of Dutch Cove Baptist Church. He loved farming and fox hunting.
He is survived by two daughters, Judith Ann Rice of Boaz, Alabama, and Kathy Smathers, and her husband, Kermit, of Canton; two sons, Mickey Charles Stamey, of Canton, and Rickey Wayne Stamey, and his wife, Susan, of Clyde; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Houston officiating. Burial will follow at Long’s Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
