YORK, SOUTH CAROLINA — Billy Lewis Lowman, 80, of 218 E. Jefferson St., died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
Billy was born April 9, 1934, to the late English "Link" Lowman and Zineda Loflin Lowman in Rowan County. He was a retired paralegal with Robinson, Bradshaw and Hinson. He served 40 years with the Volunteer York Rescue Squad, having served as captain and training officer. Billy was also an EMT instructor with York Technical College for over 30 years, a volunteer fireman with the city of York and volunteered with the York Senior Citizens and P.A.T.H. He also served in the S.C. National Guard.
Billy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Cloninger Lowman, of York, South Carolina; children, William and Cathy C. Lowman, of York, Joe and Cindy Lowman Downs, of Waynesville, John and Marla D. Lowman, of York; six grandchildren, Daniel Horlacher, of Waynesville, Justin L. Lowman, of Greer, South Carolina, Rufus J. Downs, of Waynesville, J. Craig Lowman, of York, Kara E. Lowman, of York, Jake D. Lowman, of York; and great-grandchild, Hadley Scott Downs, of Waynesville. Billy also loved his five Dachshunds, Abby, Baylee, Bella, Ellie, and Emma.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, at Bratton Funeral Home in York. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at Bratton Funeral Home in York with the Rev. Mark Crews officiating.
