By Melanie Threlkeld McConnell | Jun 20, 2014

The Lake Junaluska Summer Worship Series continues with Bishop Kenneth Carter, who will speak at 10:45 a.m. Sunday, June 29, at Lake Junaluska Assembly, located at 91 N. Lakeshore Drive Lake Junaluska.

Carter was elected bishop of the Florida Annual Conference in 2012. He has served as Waynesville District superintendent in the Western North Carolina Conference and for seven years as senior pastor of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte.

He is also the author of several books and a contributor to many others, and maintains a blog, “Bear Witness to the Love of God in This World.”

Each Sunday during the series, Holy Communion will be offered at 9 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel, followed by an adult Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. at the Harrell Center, and traditional morning worship at 10:45 a.m. in the historic Stuart Auditorium, with guest preachers.

Inspirational worship music will be provided by The Lake Junaluska Singers. Childcare is offered at the 10:45 a.m. service for children six months and older at the Wilson Children’s Complex, located at 21 Shackford Hall Road.

Each Monday, a Taize Service of Prayer and Song will be held at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel. This service, Martin said, is a contemplative service in a casual atmosphere, modeled after the Taize community in France, where participants engage in simple repetitive songs, Scripture, candlelight and silence.

Other guest preachers include:

— July 6 , the Rev. Dr. James Howell

— July 13, the Rev. Timothy Bias

— July 20, the Rev. Dr. Mark Beeson

— July 27, the Rev. Canon Gina Gilland Campbell

— Aug. 3, Dr. Derrick-Lewis Noble

— Aug. 10, Fred Bahnson
