Black Bears roll in first tennis matchShepard’s netters win eight of nine matches against East Henderson
CANTON — New head coach Harold Shepard’s Pisgah varsity girls tennis team lost the No. 1 seed singles match but picked up eight other wins, including three in doubles to beat visiting East Henderson, 8-1, in a WNC Athletic Conference match Monday afternoon.
Pisgah improved to 1-0 and the Eagles dropped to 0-1.
After East’s No. 1 seed Hannah Hill defeated Anna Warren, 10-3, the Black Bears got single wins from No. 2 seed Madison Robison (10-0), No. 3 seed Mary Cooper (10-0), No. 4 seed Samantha Watkins (10-7), No. 5 seed Makenzie McMahan (10-3) and No. 6 seed Halee Brown (10-0).
Doubles Warren/McMahan (8-2), Robinson/Kate Phillips and Cooper/McKenzie Fox (8-2) won their matches for Pisgah.
The Black Bears will travel to Franklin to take on the Panthers today in a WNCAC match. Pisgah will be off until Tuesday, Sept. 3, when it hosts at 4 p.m. West Henderson.
