Blanket donations urgently needed

Photo by: Vicki Hyatt photo For many of the street homeless like Louis Bing in Waynesville, warm blankets are the only source of warmth.

Haywood Christian Ministry is making an urgent request for blankets to help less fortunate residents of Haywood County to get through what has turned out to be a bitter cold winter.

As of Friday, due to the high number of requests, the ministry has completely run out of blankets to distribute.

Also helpful are bedspreads, comforters, sleeping bags, flannel sheets, warm socks, coats, gloves, mittens, long underwear, space heaters, or anything else that helps people stay warm.

Those have any of these items to donate, are encouraged to bring them to the donations receiving entrance, located in the rear parking lot of the Ministry’s Thrift Store.

The address is 150 Branner Ave. in downtown Waynesville, across from the public parking garage.

The hours to receive donations are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  On Saturdays, donations may be brought to the front entrance of the Ministry between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
