Blomquist to speak at Lenten services
The Rev. Dr. Bert Blomquist, interim pastor at Morningstar United Methodist Church in Canton, will preach at the Canton Community Lenten Service at noon, Thursday, April 10, at First United Methodist Church of Canton. His sermon will be 'The Call to Contemplation.'
Blomquist is no stranger to Western North Carolina, having attended youth conferences and serving as a life guard at Lake Junaluska. He served 40 years as pastor, correctional chaplain and district superintendent, primarily in the Tampa Bay area. He is a graduate of Wofford College and Duke Divinity School. He and his wife, Cathy, retired to Maggie Valley in 2011.
An offering will be taken to benefit the Canton Community Kitchen. The 30-minute service will be followed by a luncheon served in the Church's fellowship hall. The public is invited.
