The Bethel Rural Community Organization (BRCO) will meet for its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Bethel Presbyterian/Encouraging Word Baptist Church, 664 Sonoma Road, Canton.

A potluck supper featuring barbecue and fixings will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting starting at 7 p.m.

The speaker will be Patrick Johnson, who will address the topic of Haywood County’s dental needs and services. Johnson currently serves as Public Health Services director with Haywood County Health and Human Services Agency.

The clinic Johnson oversees serves children and adults, working with individuals on a sliding scale to accommodate routine dental needs.

BRCO meets on the second Tuesday of alternating months, beginning in January. Everyone is welcome.

BRCOs has received WNC Communities top award, Community of Distinction, four times in a row for its wide-ranging beautification, benevolence, education, food pantry, historic preservation and rural preservation projects.

The primary fundraiser for the group is the annual Bethel 5K/Half Marathon each October. This half marathon is the longest continuing in the state and the third oldest in the Southeast.
