Brother Wolf founder to speak at Sarge’s meeting March 20
The 2014 annual meeting of Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation will be held Thursday, March 20, at the Shelton House Barn, 49 Shelton St., in Waynesville.
Refreshments begin at 6 p.m., with the business meeting and guest speaker from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The business meeting will include a review of the year (“State of Sarge’s”) and election of new board members.
The speaker will be Denise Bitz, founder and president of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (BWAR), in Asheville. BWAR was formed in 2007 as a small group of foster homes, and opened its adoption center in June 2009. Today, BWAR is the largest no kill organization in NC and has rescued more than 12,000 animals since its inception.
Bitz moved to Asheville in 2006 as a traveling RN at Mission Hospital. She volunteered for a local animal welfare agency and realized that the capacity for the organization to help animals could not meet the problem of animal homelessness in WNC. Bitz left her career as an RN to run BWAR full time. She lives in Asheville with her 13 dogs and one cat.
